Wild saunas in North West & Lake District
9 venues across 2 towns · sessions from £25. Booking is always direct with the operator - we don't take a cut, and no venue pays to be listed.
Fahrenhut runs a wood-fired sauna with a fixed lakeside setting on Ullswater, the second-largest lake in the National Park and one of the better lakes for year-round open-water swimming. The lake here is more open and exposed than Coniston, so cold-swim acclimatisation matters more, and the shoreline path makes it a natural pairing with a walk along the Ullswater Way.
Fellside Sauna
MobileFellside Sauna is run by Laura and Joe, a Cumbrian couple who built their first mobile sauna on wheels in summer 2024. It is the small-scale, locally-run option in the Lakes cluster, typically appearing at lakeside pop-ups, weekend events and private bookings rather than a permanent installation.
RX4 Lakes Wild Sauna
MobileRX4 Lakes runs a bespoke wood-fired sauna that travels to a location of your choice in the Lake District, subject to landowner and National Park permission, typically for birthdays, anniversaries, corporate retreats and team-building days. It is the operator to look at for private-hire or group events rather than drop-in sessions.
Wild Forest Sauna
ForestWild Forest Sauna sits in Whinlatter Forest, England's only true mountain forest, on the western shoulder of Skiddaw above Keswick and Derwentwater. Its setting is distinct from every other Lake District operator: a forest sauna rather than a lakeside one, with cold buckets and outdoor showers standing in for the lake plunge.
La'al Sauna
LakesideLa'al Sauna, whose name is Cumbrian dialect for 'little', is widely credited as the first outdoor wood-fired sauna in the Lake District, established in January 2023 with saunas hand-built into converted horse boxes. Its sauna TAN has sat at Bank Ground Farm overlooking Coniston Water since April 2025, giving a fixed lakeside footprint with cold dips straight into the lake, while other horsebox units rotate between Cumbrian locations through the season.
FIX MCR
UrbanFIX MCR is a dedicated sauna and ice-bath studio in central Manchester, built around a large western red cedar sauna with a Himalayan salt-brick wall. It runs guided sessions folding in breathwork, sound, aromatherapy and meditation alongside free-flow slots, and its group-sized ice baths make it a strong pick for friends going together.
HIVE Sauna
MobileHIVE is a mobile wood-burning sauna for eight to ten people, designed and built by a team of volunteers in Moss Side. It appears at community events and pop-ups rather than running daily drop-ins, and its grassroots, community-built origins give it a character the polished Manchester studios cannot quite replicate.
Kontrast (Manchester)
UrbanKontrast pairs a sauna and ice bath with a cafe near Angel Meadow in central Manchester, and the cafe is the point of difference: you can stay, warm up and have a coffee after a session rather than heading straight back into the cold. It is the most relaxed, low-pressure entry point among the central studios.
The Good Sauna
UrbanThe Good Sauna is the anchor of Manchester's community sauna scene, set in a courtyard at Club De Padel in Deansgate Square and billed as the city's first outdoor wood-fired community sauna. Drop-in sessions take up to eight people for close to two hours, structured as heat, cold and rest around a communal fire pit, which makes it an easy, sociable place to try contrast therapy for the first time.
